Kids Say the Funniest Things

With my new job I have the pleasure of being around some of the cutest and funniest children ever. Their wit and intelligence will forever amaze me.

Occasion One:
One 5 year old: "Miss Boomer, are you married?"
Me: "Nope."
Another 5 y/o: "But what about your husband and your kids and your babies?"
Me: "I don't have any kids. or a husband."
Yet another 5 y/o: (to another one in a loud whisper) "That means she's a widow."
Me: "....." what!??! Bahaha "I've never been married."
And another: "Never? In your whole life??"
Me: I'm not that old! "Nope, never."

Occasion Two:
A few 6 y/o were feeling rather generous and drew me some lovely pictures to show their appreciation for me.
An eye.

I'm rather partial to the spelling of rock here, or perhaps they literally meant I rook. In that case I am forced to understand that they meant I a) resemble a castle, not unlike a chess piece; b) resemble a bird of the crow family, distinguished by the grey-white skin around the base of the bill under the eyes; c) am a painful ear piercing; or d) am great at a certain card game. I haven't decided which is most flattering yet.

This is my new laptop. "If you push this button the guy will dance like this."

Occasion Three:

A 10 y/o drew this picture for me--so exquisite.

This 10 y/o also told me I rock, I believe children like to compliment substitute teachers with this particular phrase.

Occasion Four: 

A 14 y/o found out my last name and made the connection to a Percy Jackson character. I told them Chiron was my grandpa and they were stunned. Later that kid asked me if I was serious or if I had been joking about Chiron being my grandpa. hehe

Occasion Five:

A fireman came to visit the children and teach them about not hiding from or being afraid of firefighters. By popular demand I was volunteered to put on the gear. Here I am high-fiving the children. That stuff was so heavy.

Occasion Six:

We were outside playing on the grass when a 4 y/o asked me to tell a story. 

Me: "What story?"

4 y/o: "A Deer Hunting Story."

Me: .... "There once was a deer named Bambi..."

4 y/o: "Tell me another story."

Me: "What do you wanna hear this time?"

4 y/o: "Three Bears"

I proceed to tell him the story.

4 y/o: "Tell me a deer hunting story."

....

Occasion Seven:

I was out retrieving a few 4 y/o from the bus when Girl A gets dropped off by her mom. Boy comes running off the bus and says "I love Girl A." When Girl B comes off the bus and walks over, Boy points at Girl B and says "He's my girlfriend." "I love both of them." To the girls he says "I love both of you." Bahaha.

A Few Days of Experience

Let me tell you about my subbing experience so far.

Last week I subbed at a high school in a math class. I was terrified, and I didn't like it one bit. Well maybe a little bit. It was my first day subbing, and I didn't know anything about it. I found that I disliked being back at high school even though it wasn't even the school I went to. It brought back awful memories. The kids were scary and bigger than me and didn't respect me or listen to me. I did make it through the day though. One kid even thanked me. That was sweet.

After that I was too afraid to take more subbing positions, and luckily there weren't any for me to take. I got sick and that gave me yet another excuse for not taking jobs. Meanwhile I read, like, about 10 books, or more. I've been reading a really great series, The Tales of the Frog Princess, by E.D. Baker. I highly recommend it (Disney's The Princess and the Frog is based on the first book of the series). I'm finishing up the last one now.

I also gave a lesson in Relief Society about finding and keeping a positive attitude. It was pretty good, if I do say so myself. I got a lot of comments and I kinda liked teaching too. :)

This week, after spending the first few days just reading, I decided I really needed to crack down and take a job. I got online and took a half-day job at an elementary school for two days in a row. I was a little nervous on the first day, but I wasn't alone in the classroom, and it really wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it a lot actually. as I was coming home from that school, I received a phone call. My employers needed me to sub immediately at another elementary school. In this class, I would be the teacher. I was nervous, but I did a really great job. The Aid even said I did pretty good, and I seemed to know how to handle the kids pretty well. :D Then the next day I went back to the other school. It was just as good as the day before, but I did even better. Tadah! I think I've found my calling in life. I like teaching children. Maybe I'll go back to school to be a teacher. You never know. Besides they like me too. Three different children came up to me to tell me. :P

Surprise

You're all shocked--but you should be super excited for me. :D I'm nervous, but I think I'll enjoy it.

I'm a substitute teacher, officially.

The kids will all call me Miss.

bahahaha. Some of them will accidentally call me mom. That I know, because I've done it, even in high school.

The Reveal: Before and After

As you all know, I bought the Dressing Your Truth Course and took the 30 day challenge. I'm not sure how often I mentioned it, but I talked about getting my hair cut and how awesome it would be. For my birthday, my loving family tried to give me money to go towards my haircut. Unfortunately, That money went toward my food :D (I have to eat somehow). For Christmas, I received enough money to get my haircut at the DYT salon. Yay! So, Big Sis and I made our appointments.

On the big day, Jeigh Bee, Big Sis, and the Nieces all went to the salon. It was fun. with the foil in my hair and the cape thing on, I chased the nieces around pretending to be a monster. They squealed and ran around the store. It was cute. :D anyway, so I'm sure you're curious as to what I did with my hair. Well, I got it cut and Emily gave me some fun layers, and I also got some highlights and some lowlights. Overall the effect is darker, but I think it has lightened a bit since then. We did my hair all fun and big. It doesn't look like this every day, I promise.

Before: Emily had me take out my flower and put on this coat thing to provide a little more contrast for the reveal. If you would kindly notice my eyes, you might realize that while the make up is touched up in the after picture, it really is basically the same as in the before.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for. Drum Roll, Please..........

After: Everything I am wearing in this picture belongs to me and was worn to the salon (minus the necklace, which I purchased that day).

Here is Big Sis and I; aren't we beautiful? This picture is my favorite. We have chicken legs. and I just realized what I remind myself of in this picture. Bestie will appreciate this: I look like the duck on Chicken Little that plays Abby in the film adaptation of their story. It's the bangs.

Style and Glasses

I like my new glasses. They are purple and pretty much the perfect color. The outside is dark purple and the inside is a light horn pattern, also purple. I also like the shape. I think they're cool. I was complimented on them yesterday by a boy. That means I'm keeping them.

It's freezing. well, below freezing, actually.

Happy Nevada Day! Oh, and Happy Halloween!!!

As only a few of you may know--actually, probably most of you, seeing as most of you are family--today is Nevada Day. It's a joyous event where we dress up in Costumes and eat candy--oh, and there's no school. Of course this is only applicable in Nevada. However, I'm fairly certain that all the other states wanted to be a little Nevada-y, so they all dress up and eat candy too. They just don't get school off.

Anyway, In keeping with the tradition of dressing up, Bestie and I wanted to dress up as some of our favorite characters. We went to our stake party as Fran and Freba from the SNL skit Fran and Freba. I was Fran, and Bestie was Freba. In the skit Fran is played by a man, so She is much taller than Freba. Well, Bestie is about 4 inches taller than I am, so even in my 3 inch heels and her in her flats, she was still taller. Oh well. It was way fun. We decided I would be Fran because I can act like a man acting like a girl much better than she can...??

We both have rather longish hair so I got creative and made it look somewhat like the real deal. I did both of our hairs with pin curls. The amazing thing is how well they stayed in. I started my hair at 4:00 pm. The last picture in this post is us at Midnight. I believe that is 8 hours. The only thing different is that my bangs were falling out. That is pretty dang impressive, if I do say so myself.

The Challenge, Day 30

I wanted to do something extra special today but then I realized that it probably wouldn't look that extra, so I just did what I do everyday. :D I took all these pictures and there weren't that many blurry ones or messed up ones, so I couldn't decide which ones to leave out. so you get them all.

I was going to post this earlier today, but I was babysitting and my niece doesn't like it when she's not the center of my attention. :D Now that I've taken her to the real babysitters, I can blog in peace. Or rather, now that I have nothing to do, I will fill my boredom with blogging.

Check it out, Bestie is makin' her debut on my blog. I didn't intentionally get her blow drying her hair in my pictures, but she is there.

The Challenge, Day 29

Can you believe it is already Day 29? It just occurred to me that tomorrow is the last day of the challenge. :(

I'll probably still take pictures of myself everyday because I just like it. but I don't want to stop blogging. I'll have to find something else to blog about to keep my habit regular. we'll see. Maybe I'll be adventurous and find something new to take a picture of periodically to practice my photography skills. Wouldn't that be fun?

I was looking through my pictures, getting rid of bad ones and rotating sideways ones and such, when I came across this one. I thought it was super funny because I don't remember taking it. I am usually pretty careful about keeping the camera off to the side so it doesn't cover any of me and my outfit, so I found it funny that I would take a picture with it right in my face. Check out the focus on my hand and how it's more blurry behind my hands. cool, huh?

The Challenge, Day 28

I went to DI Saturday morning and I got this sweater thing. I think it's pretty. When I went to Khols with Big Sis, I got this pearl necklace and some earrings. Today, I decided to wear those items. the purpose of the sweater is for my Halloween costume, but hey, It's even better if I can wear it anytime I want. :D I get to spend time with my niece, today. It's gonna be good. So far, I've done some dishes. :P

The Challenge, Day 27

I missed yesterday, I'm sorry.

It was a pretty busy day.

We won the football game! Yay! And I saw Anne Tuttle Brown. I didn't say hi to her, but I saw her climbing the bleachers.

Anyway, today, I did not match. look at that. But I'm still so so cute. :D And I'm in a way weird mood.

I've decided to name one of my future children Kardon or Karlin. This means I have to marry a Collin or a Brandon. Story: We were discussing where my name comes from and how I should carry on the tradition, so I decided to see what guy names would sound good with mine, and those two were good ones. :D

One reason I did not bother to retake the ACT

I do better the first time.

So, I made the 2 chocolate cakes for my home teachers; those cakes were perfect. almost. They were big and fluffy and only cracked on one corner: easy fix with frosting. The next cake I made was Jeff's yellow cake. It sunk in the middle, and more pieces detached themselves from it. It didn't turn out too too bad though. Then, today, I made the white cake for the ward Fall Fest. Can we say disaster? I was way excited because it came out looking more like the chocolate cakes then like the yellow: It was big and fluffy. Unfortunately that did not last. Soon the cake was in about seven pieces. I was so sad. I almost gave up. I was really excited to decorate it with Boo; I had even dyed the batter orange to be Halloweeny, but now I didn't see how it would work out. I figured we would end up making a new cake, so I went ahead a glued it together with frosting, the best I could, and decorated it how I had planned. It LOOKS great, but when someone cuts into that cake, their gonna be shocked. You can't tell from the picture, but it is all lumpy and misshaped. My roommates think it is perfectly acceptable. I feel bad and deceitful. But I am still incredibly impressed with how I managed to make it look together and over all good, but I'm positive that it is mostly made of frosting...

The moral of the story, I tend to do progressively worse at things that I try. Most people start out bad and do better with the next try, but I do my best to be perfect the first time and get lazy for the other attempts. With cakes and drawings, anyway.

The Challenge, Days 24 and 25

Thursday, Oct 20, Day 24:

I mostly read my book this day. I'm reading the Baseball Box Prophecy by Bruce Newbold. It's a pretty good book. There is a lot about baseball in it, so at first i wasn't sure if I would be able to get into it. I've learned a lot about baseball, I might start watching the sport. :D

I also baked 3 cakes. 2 for my 2 home teachers who helped me this summer, and 1 for my friend who has been hounding me for a cake for a couple weeks. :D they turned out pretty good. Since those ones all have boys' names on them, I will take a picture of the one I make today that is for the cake walk in the ward Fall Fest tomorrow.

A couple weeks ago, a friend of mine was giving away a bunch of her clothes. I found this lovely shirt during that process. I like the pattern on it, it's like little oval paint drops and they're all soft tones so they blend well.

I really need to get me a bigger round brush.

Friday, Oct 21, Day 25:

Today I wanted to wear another scarf. So I picked out one of my favorite ones, it has purple green and blue in it as well as some silver. I don't like having things close to my neck, so I don't usually wear scarves. Today i really wanted to wear this one, but I didn't want to just leave it hanging down, and I didn't want to tie it up, so I made into a loose necklace thing. That wasn't working too too well, so I just tied the ends and doubled it up (see last picture).

I started getting ready for Halloween. I practiced doing my hair, and I'm going shopping tonight and tomorrow for the necessary accessories. :D Stay tuned to see what I am for Halloween.

The Challenge, Day 23

I'm sporting a matching scarf and flower. I made both. :D

I decided to branch out a little more and try the red with my blue and gray. oooo.

I also decided to wear a scarf. I don't have a ton of jewelry, but I wanted to wear something on my neck. This is what I tried.

My camera must be getting bored of me, because it has been getting increasingly harder to get nice pictures out of it. I think the battery needs to be charged, but it doesn't say so yet.
